HEALING:
“For the life of the flesh is in the blood.” (Leviticus
17:11)
The soul connects
itself to the blood of a person. The flesh draws its life from the blood. If
the soul is hurt by a person committing avaros, sins then the blood has
impurities and the body becomes inflicted by the lack of pure flowing blood.
Therefore, we must seek a spiritual healer, Tzaddik, who can give us a remedy
for our neshamos if we cannot find our own way to a healthy soul and body.
“Restore the soul”. (Psalms 19:8)
When a person sins
hey become ill physically due to the loneliness they feel from their soul being
distant from them. Why would the soul want to be close to someone who isn’t
being holy? You restore the soul through the body performing more mitzvos.
“I am Hashem, your Healer”. (Exodus 1:26)
You hear many people
complaining they can’t find a good doctor. Hashem is the only doctor; medical professionals
are simply his agents.
“A happy heart is good for healing.” (Proverbs 17:22)
Why it is that joy is
such a connecting part of the healing process? It is because the joy of the
soul is what helps reconnect the body and soul as one. A person is sick because
the body and soul are not together but separate from one another.
“Through my flesh, I see Hashem.” (Job
Sometimes it’s only
through the imprisonment of being ill that one finds the pureness of finding
Hashem. If so, why should we complain?
“There heart will understand and they will repent and be
healed.”(Isaiah 6:10)
First a person must
understand the gravity of their sins and find a solution to prevent it from
happening again. Only then can they repent with full heart and healing will
naturally follow thereafter.
“For the life of the flesh is in the blood.” (Leviticus
17:11)
When a person says a
bracha with kavanah, the blood comes to purifies the limbs of the body and
sustain them.
“The straight of heart have joy” (Psalms 97:11)
When a person is
healthy, they are easily aroused to be joyous. This is because their heart is
balanced. When someone is ill, sadness comes easily because their heart is not
straight in its complete devotion to Hashem.
“Behold, your father is ill. Yisrael [Yaakov]
strengthened himself and sat upon the bed.” (Genesis 48:1-2)
If Yaakov was
It is a tree of life for those who hold onto
it.”(Proverbs 3:18)
A person, who holds
on tightly to the Torah taking it with him wherever he goes, will find it to be
a lifeline giving him inhuman strength.
“Let us make man in Our image, after Our likeness.”
(Genesis 1:26)
Hashem created us in
His image but when we sin, we no longer have this image engraved on us. When we
act like royalty, being refined in our actions refraining from sin, the image
of Hashem will rest upon us. Should the image of Hashem not be with us,
confusion and illness runs ramped.
“Their shadow has departed.” (Numbers 14:9)
For everything
physical, there is a counterpart spiritually. It is like a shadow as when the
physical object moves, the shadow follows it. The only time it departs is when
the spiritual counterpart is no longer in need. Can you imagine the
senselessness of some who might block their own shadow making the soul feel
unwanted?
“Good news fattens.” (Proverbs 15:30)
Good news can heal a
person quicker then any medication.
“Above all, guard your heart, for from it are the
outpourings of life.” (Proverbs 4:23)
When a person’s
heart is pure seeking only to do the will of Hashem, an outpouring of life will
stem from him affecting many people. When the heart is properly guarded,
healing descends to all limbs and sinews.
“For they will add to you length of days, years of life,
and peace.” (Proverbs 3:1-2)
Unlike a physical
remedy which may give a partial healing, the study of Torah is a complete
remedy leaving no place unturned.
“Fear of Hashem adds length of life.” (Proverbs 10:27)
Having fear of
Hashem lengthens ones life in that a person can accomplish twice as much with
the same effort. This is because true strength comes from being connected to
Hashem.
“A mans spirit strengthens”. (Proverbs 18:14)
People always look
to cure the body when truly it is the soul of a person that strengthens them.
Therefore, we should look more towards finding a remedy for the soul when we
are physically ill then looking for a remedy for ones body.
“I’ve woken up, and I’m still with You”. (Psalms 139:18)
Sometimes it takes
having an illness in order for a person to wake up and return to Hashem.
“Is there no balsam in
“Hashem will sustain him on his sick-bed”. (Psalms 41:4)
“To know that I am Hashem Who sanctifies you”. (Exodus
31:13)
“Walk before Me and be perfect.” (Genesis 17:1)
“If you listen to the voice of Hashem your Hashem, and do
what is right in His eyes, and listen to His commandments, and observe all His
decrees – all the diseases that I put upon Egypt, I shall not put upon you; for
I, Hashem, am your doctor.” (Exodus 15:26)
“It [fear of Hashem] is healing.”(Proverbs 3:8)
