Why Winter Illness

Filed under: Mishaps/tests/U name it — Reb Moshe @ 6:50 am

My family has been taking turns getting the flu here and I am wondering why Hashem chose this time specifically that people generally get ill. Maybe your words will bring us comfort and refua, healing.

  1. Rebbe Nachman says that going against the nature of the body and taking the unpleasant medical treatments comforts the soul to see that it is within our ability to break our nature, and the soul gains hope we will break our nature also in the service of HaShem — perhaps since the winter is a time of darkness and dinim, like the first half of the night, so HaShem sends us illness to give our Neshamah some hope..

the good news is that Hannukah is the tikkun hatzot of the year, and the light is starting to really pour down now, and from now till purim, we can pick up steam in our avodah 🙂 (the chut shel hesed)
