Teasing the Gabi

Filed under: What can we do? — Reb Moshe @ 4:49 am

Every Rebbe has a gabi who connects you on the phone or in person to the Rebbe. Some people are deterred by the Gabi as they see him as an in between who at times will refuse time with the Rebbe. But when you look a little deeper into his plot, you see he is there to protect the holy Rabbi. The Rabbi’s time is very valuable and he has to make sure the Rebbe has time for his family and to also take care of his own basic needs. As I always do, I like to tease the gabi cause I have so much respect for them. They are my deepest friends.

Tonight, I asked to speak to a Rebbe friend of mine and the gabi said that this week its too difficult. He asked if I had a message he could give over. I responded, “How loud can you scream?”. He pushed me for a real message and I told him I was serious. Finally, he suggested that he would ask the Rebbe to pray for the entire family. I responded, “Also, let the Rebbe know I asked you to scream for me”. I then wished him a good shabbos. Okay, don’t try this yourself. I have known him for many years! I also know, he will tell this Rebbe I asked him to scream and the Rebbe will smirk. Ah, the gabi… he is very deep… and the Rebbes… ah… even deeper.

  1. This is the best thing I ever heard.

I already met the Rebbes Gabbi this summer. They teased him too. It was shalos seudas at the Aleksander shteible. They introduced me to the Gabbi, and then they joked to me that “He is here to check on us to give a report back to the rebbe!” and The gabbi laughed when they told him.
